Campus Life has Begun
My Dorm is surprisingly nice. I am living in a suite, but my room is a single. Also I have AC! I have started decorating my room, and there is a hook on the wall perfect for my ukulele.
I decided to keep a Joy Jar starting today, this way I can document the summer. Each night before I go to sleep I will write down all the things that made me happy that day and fold them into a star and put them in the jar. By this time next week I might run out of room! I am already having an amazing time! Tomorrow night is Karaoke, and Friday we are going to Target. I decided to host a movie night this weekend in my suite for the "squad", and hopefully we will continue to watch movies as a group! This summer will be busy, and a lot of work, but I am already having the best time. #BabsonSummer

Happy July! Its July and I only have a few days before I leave for the summer.I started packing today but I have also started a 100 days of movement challenge inspired by a post on A Style Study. The beginning of a new month seemed like the perfect time to try it! A new month and some new habits. For the first day, I went on a 6 mile walk with my brother and tomorrow we plan to do some squats and jump roping. 100 days feels like a long time, but it will go by fast, especially because I will be doing so many other things. At the end, I hope to feel healthy. I guess I will tell you how it goes! Wish me luck.
Guess who got her DRIVERS LICENSE!Yesterday was my 17th birthday, and I PASSED MY DRIVING TEST! Ahhhh! Can you taste the freedom? I spent the day shopping with my mom, and then had some friends over for a lowkey night. Just a couple of friends eating and hanging out on a summer night on my lawn, telling stories, singing, listening to music, being hipster, dancing badly, looking at stars. Oh, and there was a shopping cart... ANYWAY... But today, today was the real fun, because today I went with Olivia, (again her blog) to celebrate our birthday in NYC and saw the Crucible on Broadway. It was better than I could ever have thought. It exceeded all expectations. The whole show was visually stunning and the artistic choices made by the director and creative team were fascinating and original and made the entire performance so much more amazing. The symmetry and the visual divisions that reflect the cultural mob mentality devisions were so interesting and subtle that they could be completely lost on an audience member who is not already familier with the plays history and themes. If you get the chance, I would highly recommend seeing this performance. It was absolutely incredible. After the show we stood by the stage door for a change to meet Tavi Gevinson. Olivia and I both brought our Rookie Mag Yearbooks for her to sign, but she was not coming out. We went backstage but we did not get to meet her. I had made a few extra shrinkey dink pins this week and the just so happened to be with me *wink wink* so I left them in an envelope with the note. She commented on Olivia's Instagram post about the day and liked my end of junior year/ folio photo. I might have freaked out when I got the notification on my phone... I still have not driven anywhere on my own. It just happens that every time I have gone somewhere the past two days, I have been with an adult, not even a friend. But I still got the chance to drive somewhere fun with an adult. Julian (here is his blog) and I went to Asbury to take some photos and get shaved ice. It was a fun adventure and the photos were adequately angsty for a newly 17 year old. It was a good birthday. I am happy school is done and I am so ready for summer. Adventure starts now.
The "Company Launch"Today was the final presentation and Company Launch of Twee Time© and I am so happy with how it went! All of my products were received well and my presentation itself was perfect! I was nervous but it worked out really well. I made tags for all of the products and even had a raffle for one of the bags!
Below are some more photos from the creative process and the presentation! New this week to the collection is the toaster purse and matching toast wallet as well as the girl scout badges, cheese grater purse, and waffle luggage tags! Check the blog soon to know when you can purchase them! One last huge thank you to everyone who came to support me today! I could not have had a better audience and more enthusiastic guests! I hope you enjoyed the presentation and congratulations Ms. Denicola on winning the raffle! The Culinary Collection is still expanding! Keep checking the blog! Just because the class is over, does not mean Twee Time© is over. We are just getting started.
Best. Day. Ever.Let me preface this post with a statement: No matter what I write, I cannot even begin to do justice for the amazing experience that was today. It was simply fantastic. A few weeks back, my friend Olivia (who's blog you should check out) invited me to go with her to the world premier of the Dream, Girl Film in NYC. Of course I went with her, because when an opportunity like that comes, how can you pass it up?! Erin Bagwell, the author of the blog Feminist Wednesday, teamed up with other female entrepreneurs to create a documentary about their stories.
We spent a bunch of time talking to Mariama Camara and she was stunned when she learned we were still in high school. Everyone we talked to was super excited to check out both of our blogs. (UPDATE: Olivia is also now writing an article for Erin Bagwells blog!) The whole day was amazing. And to top it off we ate dinner and crepes in Central Park (how could it get any better?!) It is so funny to think that just this morning I was sitting in Biology class dissecting a frog who I named Jason, and now, I just came home from the best day in NYC (or anywhere) that I have ever had. Thank you Dream, Girl.Weekly Favorites:Last week I decided I would make a post each week about what I have been into. I'm going to try to continue this, so here is week two of my Weekly Favorites:
Music: This week the 5, 6, 7, 8s and the Kill Bill Vol 1 and 2 soundtrack has been on constant repeat as I do my homework and dance around my room like an idiot. Art: This week I got my first box from Art Snacks! It was super cute with fun brush pens and other colored pencils. Podcast: Joseph Fink's new show Alice Isn't Dead has been my go to podcast this week. I hope you are ready for episode 2 of my podcast! It comes out on Wednesday! Fashion: This week I have been particularly inspired by the styles of Aubrey Plaza. Upcoming:
This week I will be getting super excited to go to the World Premiere of the Dream, Girl Film with style blogger and birthday bud Olivia Land! All I have to do is find the perfect outfit for the red carpet... I hope you can make it to the Company Launch of Twee Time! This is my final presentation for the independent study, but it does not mean the company is over! This is just the beginning. Be one of the first to know about Twee Time, and in a special opportunity, be one of the first to own products by Twee Time. A free raffle to win a Twee Time bag will be open to all who come to the launch!
Weekly (ish) FavoritesIn my posts "On Spring Break" and "Back from Break" I made a list of my favorites. I really liked making it so I thought I would do it again.
Reading: National Geographic kicked off their shark themed summer with their June issue's Article about Tiger Sharks. Read it here. The print issue also included some interesting posters which immediately went up on the wall next to my (shark sheeted) bed! No surprises there! Fashion: I recently started watching David Lynch's "Twin Peaks" on Netflix and have fallen in love with the fashion styles of Audrey Horne and Donna Hayward. I was playing around on Photoshop with some of my favorite outfits from the show the other day (image on the left). The clothing is better suited for winter, but i love it anyway, and it has definitely inspired some of my summer outfits! Check back next week for another Weekly Favorites list!
"Ketchup" on the LatestAnother design came to life! I finished sewing my "Ketchup Ukulele Case". The case is super practical. The label is a pocket for my capo, extra strings, and song tabs. I made it out of "Duck Cloth" so that it would be durable and protective. The finished product is my favorite that I have made so far! (I also got my hair cut, and I am super happy with how it looks now) Internship at AHQToday I spent the day as an intern for Accessory Headquarters in NYC! Thanks to some networking, I had emailed Abe Chehebar, the CEO of the company, and asked him about coming in for a day to shadow a designer and learn about the industry. He was more than willing and told me that I would see the most if I came during market week. Market Week! I was more than excited.
During their review of market week they discussed sales and design accomplishments. Prepping for the end of winter in 2017 seems way to far away to think about but I was excited when they mentioned "novelty items" are going to be in style. I joined the conversation, flipping back in my journal to my own novelty bag designs. They loved it! This approval meant so much to me, because professional designers were commenting on how clever and creative it was! That was a major confidence boast. They expressed interest in possibly using the designs! Best moment all year. At the end of the day they invited me to come back and intern on a regular basis. I wanted to respond "Yes! Immediately! I'll be back tomorrow", but my schedule is too busy at the moment. I told them that I will stay in contact and continue to update them on my own company, and that hopefully next summer I can come back and intern for them. I really hope it works out that way.
Overall, today could not have been any better! Thank you Mary Beth, Abe Chehebar, Ezra Ashkenazi, and Laura Bourne. Highlights from the Met Gala
Fried Eggs, Order Up!The first bag of my official line "Culinary Collection" is finished! This eggcelent wristlet designed to look like an egg frying on a pan. Product shots: Coming soon: some balsamic inspired couture
Day 2I recently posted about my latest photoshoot series of "Urban Exploration". (If you missed it check it out here) After I found an abandoned mill today became part two of this photo shoot. They photos were definitely worth all of the mosquito bites. (If I get a chance I want to go back with some friends for more staged model type shots.) Check it out: Okay so that was more than a few photos...
but I hope you liked them! Study SpaceComing back to school from break is always a bit tough, but this week has been really good! Today is the last day of the marking quarter and I'm finishing strong. I needed a fresh start for the fourth quarter to keep me on track when the weather is perfect for photoshoots. My solution: redecorating! Simply buying new sheets was enough to do the trick. I am now inspired by Peter Pan and sharks on my sheets. (My fairy lights are fun too but those have been there for a while). After yesterdays meeting, I decided to organize myself for the upcoming stress of college. Naturally, I printed some cute calendars to fill in the application release dates, deadlines, and response dates. I know it is a bit far in advance to be planning but I like feeling organized. (I also like studying while listening to records like a hipster. Check out my study playlist) My favorite study tools: Forest, Momentum, and Mildliners. Coming soon: a vlog?!
Financial PlanningToday I met with Harpreet S. Mangat to discuss startup finance. It was such a wonderful opportunity. We discussed budgeting, how best to balance risky ventures with more safe ventures. Through this experience I learned how to present yourself and conduct a meeting. I also learned about the importance of bringing an agenda to meetings. The meeting went well and Harpreet helped me create a stronger plan as well as some new ideas of marketing and branching out. Overall, I think the crucial lesson of the day was the importance of networking. All of buisiness is networking, and if you get the opportunity to make connections, take them. Day 1:If you have not started following any "Urban Explorers", I suggest you do. I found some cool places myself that I have been meaning to explore and photograph. Today I acted upon that mission, and here are some of the results: Some photos that I took behind an old factory with some abandoned train lines. I hope you enjoy my pretentious and angsty titles for the photographs. Finally spring break is here!
Today I started to work on my first design in my "Culinary Collection" This novelty wristlet styled as a sunny side up egg on a frying pan has two pockets, the egg on the outside and the depth of the pan itself. The handle of the pan is the strap of the bag. Coming soon: the final product!I had been waiting for the daffodils to bloom all winter long and they are finally here! The light and heavenly scent is my favorite! Today was the perfect weather to photograph in the Reeves Reed Arboretum. Here are some of my favorite photos from today's shoot:I hope you are also celebrating spring! My first set is complete!I had sew much fun yesterday at Urban Sewciety learning how to sew a zipper, that when I got home from school today I had to make another. In the past few weeks I have been thinking of a bunch of cool product ideas, so I decided to start a journal to track my inspiration and keep notes. At the moment it is mostly collage and sketches of ideas. It will soon be filled with notes about bag types and styles as well as marketing research. I have been cutting things out and sorting them by colour, season, and mood. Here is a sample of the purple collection: This is the first page of the journal so far. I cut out a quote and pasted it in. "Don't think outside the box. Redesign it." I think that is an awesome summary of my goal in this class. To find a creative outlet that is also practical and allows for space to learn what I am most intrigued by. The excuse slip is in there because I leave school during my free periods and I take sewing lessons, and I've been saving the slips. I have big plans for them, you'll learn soon enough.... I already picked out a quote that I like for tomorrow (Its on the purple collection above). "Don't just dream in your sleep. It's just lazy"Today was my first sewing lesson at Urban Sewciety. It went really well! I caught on very quickly and I learned so much. The tote bag that I made looks professional. I am so happy with the result! 13"x15"
I especially loved learning about making the corners. For my next project I want to learn how to sew a zipper so I will be making a matching pouch out of the same fabric I used for the tote bag. The only difference in their fabric will be that they are inverted of each other. Where the inside was aqua, the pouches outside will be aqua. Today I planned my first sewing project, to make a tote bag. I went to Urban Sewciety to pick out fabric. I am very excited to begin making!
Hello there! The pre-history of this blogLast semester I took a business course, and discovered it was a subject that I wanted to explore further but with a larger emphasis on entrepreneurship and design.
To that end, I created my own curriculum for an independent study to learn about design, branding, marketing and developing a product. The final project and goal is to have an original brand of my creation with a unique collection of my designs. You can think of this blog like a journal. I will be using it to document my process in this independent study and it will eventually become a portfolio of the work I did during the course. |
